5 Lawrence Left the Nest
Lawrence left the nest and flew to the building across from the hotel. I didn’t know where Gage had gone when he left the nest. I soared through the sky and looked for him down below. I flew back to the nest hoping so desperately to find him there. Ossie and I still bring the boys food until they learn how to catch something to eat in-flight. I worried that my dear boy must have been so hungry.
The humans of Hamilton Falconwatch tried their very best to rescue Gage, but it all happened too quickly. When Gage left the nest, he made an unsafe landing on the road. Oh little human, I don’t want to tell you something so sad, but Gage lost his life to oncoming traffic. There are some dangers when raising a family in the city and that includes the danger of vehicles. The very first young falcon that needed help was named Hamilton. He landed on a busy road, but fortunately he was able to be rescued in time. He had help from a police officer and Falconwatch.
We all miss Gage so much. I wish Lisgar, Ainslie, and Lawrence had the chance to play aerial games of tag with their youngest brother. Sweet child, there’s still a happy ending ….
The boys are now young adults, and I watch with pride as they fly high in the sky. These days, they’re hunting on their own. Soon they won’t need me or Ossie anymore. They’ll find new homes and mates to raise a family of their own. Some Peregrine Falcons fly as far as South America to escape the winter cold. We like staying here in this city all year round because there are so many pigeons to eat. It will just be my sweet Ossie and I until the boys get a new brother and/or sister. Hamilton is home sweet home.
